Care Guide: Protecting Your Investment
Let’s talk hair care. Just like your natural hair, your extensions need a little love to stay looking their best. Did you know the average person sheds anywhere from 50 to 100 strands of hair a day? The same goes for extensions, shedding is completely normal and nothing to worry about. Factors like length, manipulation, and brushing all play a role. The good news? A simple routine can go a long way in keeping your hair full, healthy, and lasting as long as possible.
Here’s what we recommend:
- Seal Your Wefts — A little sealant goes a long way. Products like Salon Pro Weft Seal can be applied directly to your wefts to reinforce the hair and minimize shedding before it starts.
- Protect Your Hair at Night — Always secure your hair in a silk bonnet or scarf before bed. This reduces friction while you sleep and helps prevent unnecessary tangling, breakage, and damage.
- Less Is More With Products — We get it, the urge to layer on oils and products is real — but resist it. Over-applying products causes buildup that weighs the hair down, leading to tangling and excessive shedding. Keep it light.
- Wash With Intention — Start with a clarifying shampoo to remove any product buildup, follow up with a moisturizing shampoo to restore hydration, and finish with a conditioner to lock in moisture. If you’re actively wearing and styling your hair, aim to wash and condition every 2–3 weeks to keep it fresh and nourished.
- Brush Smarter, Not Harder — Always section your hair and start detangling from the ends, working your way up to the roots — never the other way around. For tools, opt for flexible-bristle brushes or cushioned paddle brushes for everyday styling, and a wide-tooth comb for wet or curly hair. The right brush really does make a difference.
One important thing to keep in mind: unlike your natural hair, extensions are no longer connected to a follicle that supplies nutrients. That means they rely entirely on you for moisture and care. Treat them like the investment they are, and they’ll reward you with longevity.
These tips are always encouraged but never required — at the end of the day, you know your hair best. Our goal is simply to help you get the most out of every install.
